Paradise Lost

Visual exploration of life in Kashmir: conflict, faith and normalcy.

This portfolio contains the pictures from two ongoing long-term projects on conflict and faith along with few pictures of normalcy. All three facets of life are portrayed in black and white. A home of Sufi saints where faith is deeply rooted and so is the political conflict. Between these two extremes is seen a so-called ‘normal life’ that embraces both poles in a unique way. Taking conflict a normal thing and at the same time finding refuge in faith is the only way out for the people to live and to find meaning of existence.

Life- here means to survive amid the binaries of conflict and peace. So my pictures capture this constant struggle in two contrasting colors of black and white with numerous shades of grey.
